Small_group_logoAt Woodcrest, we believe that being a part of a small group is a healthy step toward spiritual development, and we want to help you take that step by informing you about small group life. Below you will find information that will help you understand who small groups are (our values), why we exist (our purpose), what we do (our mission), and how you can get involved. If you have any questions or would like to find out more about small groups, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I would be glad to help you.

In Christ,

Group Values (who we are)…

GROUP – Relationships
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so a friend sharpens a friend.”

We believe that fully devoted followers of Christ pursue and develop loving, authentic, and accountable relationships with one another. These relationships form the foundation of healthy small group life.

GROWTH – Life Change

John 14:21 “Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them."

We believe that small group members should help one another to grow in their knowledge of who God is and to apply that knowledge through daily obedience to God’s Word and God’s leading. Over time, this growth should be evidenced through the sharing of God’s love with lost people and the giving of time, talents, and resources to the church and community.

GRACE – Authenticity

Ephesians 4:2 “Be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.”

We believe that the atmosphere of a small group should encourage people to be open and transparent with one another, recognizing that none of us are perfect and each of us are in need of God’s saving grace. People should feel free to be themselves because of the confidentiality and grace that exist within the small group.

Group Purpose (why we exist)…

The purpose of a small group is to provide an opportunity for people to experience genuine, Christ-centered community in the pursuit of spiritual maturity.

Group Mission (what we do)…

The mission of a small group is to connect the hearts of people with God and others.

What is a small group?

A small group is a group of (ideally) 8-10 people who meet on a regular basis in order to develop Christ-centered relationships that will help them grow spiritually.

FAQ's

Question:
What do small groups study?

The content of each group’s study is determined by the group itself. Typically, groups choose to do either topical studies (i.e. love, worship, outreach, etc.) or studies that focus on a particular book of the Bible.

Question:
When and where do small groups meet?

Answer:
Each group determines when, where, and how frequently to meet. Often times, groups choose to meet in the homes of group members who are willing to host.

Question:
Do small groups provide childcare?

Answer:
Sometimes groups choose to arrange a system of childcare for their meetings. The decision whether or not to make these arrangements is up to each individual group.

Leadership Information

A small group leader’s purpose is to be responsible for providing the group with vision, direction, and support while helping the group become transformed by living out its purpose and values. Small group leaders play an important role in the life of small groups. Becoming a small group leader does not require that you are perfect or that you have arrived spiritually (if that were the case none of us would be qualified to lead); however, it does require that you have a faith relationship with Jesus Christ, are pursuing spiritual growth, and are willing to let your life be an example for others. To find out more about small group leadership, please contact Pete Parker at pete.parker@woodcrestchurch.org.
